Music Crossroads Southern Africa (Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zambia)
Music Crossroads Southern Africa (MCSA) is a youth empowerment through music program that was initiated by Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI), the world’s largest youth and music network, in 1995. With generous support from SIDA, NORAD and UNESCO, MCSA has developed into the largest African cultural project (2004) and also the most important youth empowerment project on the African continent.
The MCSA core activity is a set of annually recurring festival-workshop-competitions on local, provincial, national and interregional levels. Each of these events span from 1.5 to 3 days and contains 2 full days of workshops on music and music business skills training and a relationship workshop focusing on the fight against HIV/AIDS. The events end with a festival concert with all participating bands/artists from which a jury selects the best acts to proceed to the next level.
